Ok. So, I like to look up words in the dictionary. Often times it will lead me in search of other word definitions, but never has the search been so long before...

There has got to be a better word for unwillingly. More accurately, a word which describes something that is done or felt without one wanting to. Does such a word exist? HELP!

Help: Moral indignation [12 Nov 2006|12:28pm]

mystico_tala
I need help with a definition of 'moral indignation', I know what the basic idea is, but I need to use it in an essay about The Odyssey and I didn't want to completely botch it. I've tried looking online but "Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo" and "Moral indignation is the opiate of the literate left" doesn't really help me.
I would really appreciate some help! Thanks!

Usage of 'dichotomy'? [20 Oct 2006|08:38pm]

mein_liebe
I'd like to use dichotomy in the title of my English essay, but I'm not sure as to whether it's truly appropriate given context. The essay discusses the different way that Elizabethans and more modern viewers would read and understand Macbeth, focusing on supernatural elements.

which or that? [07 Sep 2006|06:58pm]

gregstevenstx
Today I saw a sign that said: "A friend is a gift which you give to yourself...."

And it got me thinking: when are you supposed to use "which" and when are you supposed to use "that"?

What is the official rule behind the distinction?
